What does the Invisalign process involve?
Before beginning the Invisalign process, an initial consultation is organised with your dentist or orthodontist. During the consultation, a 3D digital image of the teeth is produced and is used to help create the aligners. From the images, a detailed treatment plan can be established.
To receive the best result from the treatment, it is recommended that the aligners are worn for at least 22 hours each day for around two weeks. Being removable, you can take the aligners out when you eat and brush your teeth. After the two-week period is up, a new aligner from the set is swapped, allowing for the continuation in the alignment of your teeth. Check-ups every six weeks are recommended to ensure that the treatment is still working and that the teeth are still being aligned correctly.
Benefits of Invisalign
The benefits of choosing Invisalign over traditional braces include:
- They are removable
Being a simple plastic aligner, they can be removed at any time including for weddings, formals and other special occasions. Being removable also means that you don’t have to worry about food getting stuck while eating. - There are no food restrictions
When you choose Invisalign, you don’t have to put up with food restrictions. Since they are removable, you can eat anything including sweets, drink soft drink and chewing gum. However, to get the best results you need to wear your aligners for at least 22 hours a day. - They are comfortable
Being made out of plastic, the aligners will be gentle on the cheek area. Unlike traditional metal braces, no scrapes or cuts will occur. This allows patients who can’t withstand contact with metal objects to be able to still achieve straight teeth.

Invisalign FAQs
How should I clean my Invisalign aligners?
In order to keep your Invisalign aligners clean and hygienic, we recommend that you rinse them every time you remove them. This will help to get rid of any dry saliva and plaque that has built up. It is also a good idea to soak your aligners in a special cleaning formula from time to time. Remember to brush and floss your teeth before reinserting your aligners — by maintaining proper oral hygiene, you should be able to prevent oral health issues such as tooth decay from developing. You can also brush your aligners very gently with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Just be sure that you don’t brush too hard, as this could damage your aligners.
How long does Invisalign treatment last?
When it comes to the duration of Invisalign treatment, each patient is different. Your treatment time will depend on a number of factors, including your aesthetic goals, the issues you would like resolved, and your compliancy to treatment. In most cases, Invisalign treatment generally takes anywhere between 12 to 18 months to complete. When you come in for a consultation, your dentist will assess your particular needs before formulating a treatment plan and letting you know what you can expect.
Can Invisalign straighten very crooked teeth?
While Invisalign can resolve a number of orthodontic issues, it is important to note that very severe misalignment may not always be treated with clear aligners. If you have crooked teeth, we recommend that you come in for a consultation. Your dentist will assess your needs and let you know which treatment is right for you.
Can both adults and kids use Invisalign?
Although Invisalign is an option for both adults and children, dentists may suggest traditional braces for young children, taking into consideration their age and ability to properly maintain the aligners.
Will Invisalign affect my diet?
With Invisalign, you can continue to eat your favorite foods without restrictions since the trays are removable. Just take them out before eating, and you’re good to go! However, it’s crucial to brush your teeth after each meal to avoid food particles from getting stuck between your teeth or gums and to keep your aligners clean and prevent staining or bacterial growth caused by food residue.
Are you a candidate for clear braces?
Invisible braces, such as Invisalign, are a great option for a wide range of people who want to straighten their teeth or correct their bite. They are particularly popular among adults and teenagers who prefer a more discreet and comfortable orthodontic treatment option.
Invisible braces are generally suitable for people with mild to moderate dental problems, such as overcrowded teeth, widely spaced teeth, overbites, underbites, and crossbites. However, severe cases may require traditional braces or other orthodontic treatments.
It is best to consult with your dentist to determine if invisible braces are a good option for your specific dental needs and lifestyle.
Will Invisalign affect my speech?
Some people may experience a temporary change in their speech when they first start wearing Invisalign aligners. This is because the aligners can initially feel bulky and may slightly affect the way your tongue moves when speaking. However, as you get used to wearing the aligners, any speech changes are typically minor and tend to improve over time. If you experience persistent speech difficulties or have concerns, it’s a good idea to discuss them with your dental specialist.
How often should I wear my Invisalign aligners?
For the best results, you should wear your Invisalign aligners for about 22 hours a day. This means you should wear them consistently throughout the day and night, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. The more consistently you wear your aligners, the more effective your treatment will be.
Is Invisalign suitable for all orthodontic issues?
Invisalign is effective for treating many orthodontic issues, including mild to moderate crowding, spacing, and various bite problems like overbite or underbite. However, severe cases may require alternative treatments, such as traditional braces or surgery. While Invisalign offers a discreet option with removable clear aligners, it may not be suitable for complex issues like severely rotated teeth or large gaps. Consulting with an orthodontist is crucial to determining if Invisalign is the right choice for your specific needs.
What are the main advantages of choosing Invisalign over traditional braces?
Invisalign offers several advantages over traditional braces. Firstly, Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible, making them a discreet option for orthodontic treatment. They are also removable, allowing for easier oral hygiene maintenance and the ability to eat and drink without restrictions. Invisalign aligners are typically more comfortable than traditional braces, as they do not have metal brackets or wires that can cause irritation. Additionally, Invisalign treatment often requires fewer visits to the dentist or orthodontist compared to traditional braces.
How do I clean my teeth while wearing Invisalign aligners?
It’s important to maintain good oral hygiene while wearing Invisalign aligners. You should brush your teeth after every meal or snack before reinserting the aligners. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and toothpaste to gently clean your teeth and the aligners. It’s also recommended to floss daily and rinse your aligners with lukewarm water to prevent bacteria buildup. Avoid using hot water, as it can warp the aligners. Regular cleaning helps keep your teeth healthy and reduces the risk of cavities and gum disease during Invisalign treatment.
How often do I need to visit the dentist or orthodontist during Invisalign treatment?
During Invisalign treatment, it is recommended to visit your dentist or orthodontist every 6-8 weeks. These regular check-ups are essential for monitoring your progress, ensuring that the aligners are fitting properly, and making any necessary adjustments to your treatment plan. During these visits, your provider will check the movement of your teeth, assess the fit of the current set of aligners, and provide you with the next set in your series. These appointments also offer a chance to address any concerns or questions you may have, ensuring that your treatment stays on track and delivers the best possible results for your smile. Consistent follow-up visits are crucial for achieving the desired alignment and maintaining oral health throughout the treatment process.
